Holiday Showdown

With so many websites and travel companies offering great deals on holiday we wanted to know which companies our panel members enlisted to help them book the perfect getaway.

Thomson proved to be the most popular travel company with many of the panel feeling that it offered reliability and great value for money. Many were prepared to pay more money to use a company with a good reputation that would look after them if things didn’t turn out as planned. Companies Thomas Cook and On the Beach were also mentioned as worthy candidates when it came to holiday organisation.

“I think Thomson are a really good company. You know you can trust them, they seem to know what they are talking about.” (Alice, 27, Hove)

“When I book holidays I really like to use a company that I know is reputable and very well known, I don’t mind if it costs a little bit more, I usually try and book with someone like Thomson or First Choice.” (Rachel, 32, North Walsham)

Searching the web for holiday deals seemed to be more popular than going into travel agents. Many felt that the best deals where to be found on the internet and that travel agents were actually more expensive. There is also so many different sites with something for everyone at the touch of a button. Many of the panel used numerous websites and search engines to help them to find the best deals.

“I actually use lots of different websites when booking holidays, I like to compare the hotels etc and flight prices as well…I won’t really go into travel agents anymore. I feel like I can get all the information I want online.” (Emily, 28, Leeds)

“I generally use Google when I’m looking for a holiday, that would be my first starting point and that would lead me onto websites with holiday deals on.” (Elizabeth, 32, Sherborne)

TripAdvisor was mentioned as a great tool when it came to planning and preparing for a holiday with it’s endless reviews on accommodation and attractions.

“I use trip advisor because you get good reviews, you get good descriptions of the resorts and the accommodation. I’d recommend that to anyone, it’s a good way to find out what places are like where you are going.”   (Erica, 48, Hornchurch)

Another website that was popular was On the Beach,  the panel members that had used this site to book their holidays felt like it offered the best prices and discounts online.

“I like to book my holidays through onthebeach.co.uk. The reason for this is because I’ve had good experiences with them, never any problems and you get good online discounts booking with them as opposed to booking in a travel agents. It’s really straight forward and it covers everything.” (Chloe, 22, Manchester)

“I tend to use on the beach to book my holidays for the simple reason that I find that their prices are always the best and they always give free children holidays.” (Paul, 39, Hayes)
